Confessions as we start the new year.
I’m a lucky guy. How many people can say they celebrate New Years twice? One with a great group of friends and the other with a supportive family? Though the official New Years here in the States may be on January 1st, I don’t start thinking about resolutions until Lunar New Year comes around. I think it’s especially important for me this year, however, as I jump into 2018 with what is my biggest continuing project ever.
Aniblogging, and all the pride that comes with it.
Yes, I’m proud to say I’m an aniblogger. It’s fun, and I absolutely love it. Yet that pride comes with a host of its own worries. Studies, work, college life, along with writing itself are the most of it. I can’t say my journey through blogging has been easy, but I’ll manage. We’re moving into the Year of the Dog; a new year filled with plans that’ll probably go awry. But that’s okay, because we’ll keep going either way.
Bringing honesty into the New Year.
I want to start off by discussing my “100 Day Anime Challenge”. When I first started this challenge, it was to get me to write. I love writing; or at least I think I do. It’s almost physically painful when I find myself stuck or hitting a wall. So I just wrote.
And it worked.
The challenge was a success. I was writing, and I was doing it daily. Some prompts were fun, others were “meh” at best. Some pieces I fell in love with while creating, and others I wanted to burn before anyone else could see them. But I kept going, and I kept posting for the community to read. You guys were supportive and loving regardless, and I can never thank you enough. But in the spirit of honesty, I have something to confess.
I’m burning out.
It’s a reality that I knew I’d have to face eventually, but I stubbornly forged on until it hit me; and it hit me hard. A hundred days of daily posting really pushes into work and studies. That’s especially true if you’re me: a slow writer with an even slower editting process. But I forced myself to continue, and despite the progress, I wasn’t satisfied with the quality. The results? Me being hard on myself and burning out even quicker. But that’s fine! It’s a new year, after all.
And with that, I’ve decided to save my weekends for myself rather than posting.
Am I weak? Probably. But I think accepting that fact now will save me from going on hiatus for months on end. As for the real reason? With the release of *Kingdom Come: Deliverance*, I knew that the gaming industry was conspiring against me. So the last few days have been spent absolutely binge-playing the game whenever I had that time. Yes, I’m an addict. I’ve only come to terms with that recently, but I’ll be ready to come back soon. This challenge was always a marathon after all, not a sprint.
And with that, here are some of my resolutions for the new year.
Post More Content
Alright, this may run completely counter to what I was just saying above. The anime challenge has been a blast so far, but with the time spent on those daily posts, I can’t truly follow the principle of “write what you want.” I’ve known for awhile now, and even have a healthy list of subjects I’m excited to write about-if only I had the time. But that time is usually squandered on video games and general procrastination. So I’m following a new principle for 2018.
“Spend time improving yourself, or enjoying yourself. Anything else is wasted.”
Watch more anime
From someone that blogs about anime, this one may come as a surprise for some. For others, it may be an all-too familiar problem. I find myself spending more time writing and gaming more than actually keeping up with this season’s simulcast. Maybe its been a weak season, or perhaps I’m just too lazy. Either way, my PTW list is growing steadily, so I better get on that soon.
Finish designing a website
In a post months ago, I mentioned that I was drafting up and working on the designs for my blog. Progress on that has more or less stopped, with me working on other things (another website among that). It’s a design that I want to see come to life, so I’m giving it my all this year to finally stop putting it off. How? I’m not sure yet, but I’m determined.
Or so I say.
Finish the anime challenge
Not much more to say on this. It’s been an amazing journey. I’ve met so many new bloggers, experimented with different styles, touched on various topics from harems to action scenes, and discussed it all with an amazing community. So here’s to me hopefully finishing this before 2019.
And to another amazing year with you all.

Turn the challenge into a weekly instead of daily. That will flex your time!

That sounds like a great idea. I’ll probably try that the next time I undertake a similar challenge. Thanks for the suggestion, and all the times you’ve stopped by with encouraging words haha.

I can sympathise with you on burning out, I’ve been blogging a lot than most (not going to say how long exactly) let’s just say it eventually hit me last year. Take your time with it, don’t rush. As for the challenge as shoka said weekly not daily might solve the issue of time constraints.

Nothing but respect for you, Rocco. While I haven’t been blogging for nearly as long, it’s reassuring to hear that even experienced bloggers like yourself get burned out eventually.

Few of us actually blog daily, I think. I totally understand the burnout, as an English major who’s often too fed up with analyzing things to put proper effort into reviewing series. I love your resolutions, but I hope you don’t stress yourself out~ ☺

Thanks for the kind words! I think it’s definitely the same for me, as I tend to analyze specifics rather than reviewing a series as a whole. Of course, that’s also partly because my experience with reviews is negligible at best.

Haha…not particularly experienced here either. I have, like, 5 series reviews in total and they’re all in listicle form. I’m looking forward to reading more of your stuff though!!

I think I said it here before, but if I ever do something like “100 Days”… It’ll be “days where I feel like tackling the next entry”. That might help you too.
Looking forward to the rest of the Challenge because there’s been some good stuff there!

That means alot coming from you, Derek! Yeah, I’ll definitely be less stubborn about it going forward. I’m proud with what I have now, but I’m still looking forward to finishing the challenge.
Its been fun after all!
